FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Q. How does a reusable candle work?
A. Reusable candles have a heat resistant cup in the center of the candle. When you burn the candle, you only burn what’s inside the cup, not what holds the design. When approximately 80% of what is inside the cup is burned, blow it out, let it cool and pick out what’s left inside the cup. Drop in a plastic tea light or gel tea light and burn over and over again. DO NOT USE METAL TEA LIGHTS they tend to get hotter than the plastic ones We recommend that you only burn a candle 3 - 4 hours at a time on a level protected surface.
Q. What is the difference between a Burnable and a Reusable candle?
A. A burnable candle does not have a refillable cup. Once you burn to the 80% of the gel, the candle is done. A reusable candle has a heat resistant cup in the center which allows you to use the candle over and over again.
Q. What is the correct way to burn a gel candle?
A. Always keep the wick trimmed to ¼” or less for proper burning to reduce or eliminate black smoke and soot. When the wick is inside the candle, use a fingernail clipper or a wick trimmer to trim the wick.
Q. What is the difference between Gel and Wax?
A. Gel burns hotter, slower, and cleaner than wax. The light diffuses throughout the entire candle, not just the wick top. They give off approximately 40% more luminescence than regular paraffin wax due to their clarity.
Q. What is the metal in the center of the wick? Lead??
A. The metal core inside the wick is zinc, not lead. This is to help the wick stay straight when the gel is in liquid form and keeps your wick from drowning in the gel.
Q. Who makes the Gel? BURNING EXPRESSIONS??
A. NO Penreco. Penreco® gel, the only patented gel in the world. It is made from 96% white mineral oil (baby oil) and 4% trade secret to make it gel. Penreco® gel burns cleaner and longer than wax or soy.
Q. What are Embeds?
A. Embeds are items placed inside the gel candle to add creativity, character, and stunning beauty to the candle. Items such as roses, butterflies, seashells, fruit, and anything the imagination can think of are included.
Q. Why are some of the pictures a little fuzzy?
A. Gel candles come with air bubbles mixed in the gel. The fuzziness is due to the bubbles in the gel.
Q. Why do gel candles have air bubbles?
A. Air bubbles are left in the gel to diffuse the light coming through the candle creating the look of elegance.
Q. Will direct sunlight affect the gel?
A. YES – Direct sunlight will cause the gel to discolor and lose its bubbles (sparkling appearance). If you want no bubbles, then keep the candle in direct sunlight a few hours at a time, be sure to rotate until desired look is achieved.
Q. What is the metal at the bottom of the wick?
A. This is a high collar wick tab. When your candle is approximately ¼” from the bottom of the wick holder it will self extinguish because of the high collar wick tab. If you forget to blow it out, or fall asleep your candle will put itself out for you.
